RFI Technology Solutions and Syntony-GNSS announced today their partnership, aiming to addressing underground GNSS positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) solutions under increasing demand with the burgeoning underground infrastructure being built throughout Australia and New Zealand. The Syntony-GNSS PNT solution plugs the gap in GPS/GNSS/RNSS underground coverage in roads, rails and transport tunnels.
Syntony’s patented SubWAVE/SubWAVE+ solutions expands the GPS/GNSS coverage to underground areas enabling accurate location information to be received by standard GPS/GNSS receivers such as those already in smartphones, navigation systems in cars and other road and rail vehicles, and increasingly in communications devices used by emergency services and other critical industries for operations and safety. The system operates by broadcasting synthetic navigation GPS/GNSS signal through feeder antenna cables in underground environments, that can be shared with the telecom. SubWAVE+ can even achieve a high accuracy positioning (1-10m), underground, which is unique worldwide in GPS-compatible indoor location systems.
Syntony GNSS is a leader and expert in the design and manufacture of GNSS systems and RFI has well established credentials in Wireless coverage Solutions which include significant experience in the design, system integration, deployment and support for underground and confined spaces applications.
RFI is the leader in wireless coverage solutions for tunnels and underground communications, and the addition of the SubWAVE/SubWAVE+ solution now provides a complete critical network coverage solution for the emergency services and transport industries and their increasing reliance on location and navigation services (e.g. GPS/GNSS) in daily operations.
President of Syntony GNSS, Joel Korsakissok, said, “We are very pleased to form a partnership with RFI. Their local knowledge and experience in ANZ, together with their dedicated installation, commissioning and support teams complement our flexible and world leading solutions.”
RFI CEO Scott Magee said, “We commend the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) for recognizing these similar needs within Australia and the current consultation being undertaken with Industry to assess options for potential future licensing of such services in critical underground locations. We look forward to sharing the joint expertise of RFI and Syntony with ACMA, other local Authorities and our industry customers as they chart a prudent course towards trials that will lead to solutions meeting user demands.”
